The national Rich Valdes Show recently asked John Rizvi to come on the air to discuss the recent news of the upcoming Winnie the Pooh slasher film, “Winnie the Pooh: Blood and Honey”. As a registered patent attorney and founder of The Patent Professor®, John was able to explain the legalities of copyrights and how they can expire, thus leading to the public domain and the ability for anyone to take an idea and do what they want with it.
John discussed how Disney still has exclusive rights to the version of Winnie the Pooh that they have created, but the original version of Winnie the Pooh created by A.A. Milne is now in the public domain. He also explained how this could lead to other beloved characters, such as Bugs Bunny and Batman, entering the public domain and being used in ways that fans may not be expecting.
John also touched on how this new take on the classic Winnie the Pooh story will be drastically different from what we know and love. In the film, Christopher Robin abandons Pooh and Piglet in the 100 Acre Woods, only to return and find them feral and on a carnivorous rampage.
